Undergraduate research assistant opportunities

The Learning Engineering Institute (LEI) and the Science of Learning and Educational Technologies (SOLET) Laboratory are looking for research assistants who can commit to 2 semesters, 9 hrs/week, and have an interest in our research.

We offer research assistants the opportunity to receive hands-on experience and one-on-one mentorship. As an RA at LEI and SOLET lab, you will support our efforts to understand and model various factors that influence comprehension and learning and utilize this theoretical foundation to improve educational practices for diverse populations. You will also learn about the learning engineering process and how to apply it to solve educational challenges. Learning engineering and the work that we do in the SOLET lab is interdisciplinary. As such, you will be able to learn about how various approaches from psychology, learning analytics, computer science, linguistics, and education for the development of game-based designs, intelligent tutoring systems, the development of natural language processing tools, and contribute to basic research to further understand the processes involved in comprehension, learning, writing, and education. You will work on tasks that include materials development and data collection, data scoring/coding, and data analysis. Students are also highly encouraged to pursue their personal research interests as they would pertain to the research in the LEI and SOLET Lab.

As a member of the lab we offer the experience of what it’s like to work in a cognitive psychology research lab, support in applying to graduate school, guidance in discovering how to narrow down specific research interests, and guidance on how to execute basic research projects.
