Description

The Science of Learning and Educational Technologies (SoLET) Laboratory is seeking a motivated and talented Graphic Design Intern to join our team. You will work closely with our researchers and programming team to develop high-quality graphics and visual assets for the iSTART-Early project—an online intelligent tutoring system aimed at providing automated instruction and game-based practice of reading comprehension strategies to 3rd and 4th graders. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in graphic design while contributing to cutting-edge educational technology research and supporting the development of an innovative platform.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with our researchers to understand the objectives and requirements of the iSTART-Early project.
  • Create visually engaging and user-centric graphics for the iSTART-Early platform, including user interface elements, icons, and illustrations to enhance the learning experience for 3rd and 4th graders.
  • Maintain consistency and adhere to brand guidelines in all design deliverables, contributing to the development of a professional and engaging educational technology platform.
  • Support the team in the production of marketing materials, presentations, and other visual assets related to the iSTART-Early project.
  • Stay updated with current design trends, techniques, and technologies, and propose innovative ideas to enhance the visual appeal and effectiveness of the iSTART-Early platform.
  • Assist with organizing and managing digital asset libraries to ensure efficient access to design resources relevant to the project.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Graphic Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proficient in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or Affinity Designer.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your design skills and creativity, with a focus on digital graphics.
  • Knowledge of user interface design principles and best practices, with the ability to adapt the designs to cater to the needs of 3rd and 4th graders.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and incorporate feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a team player.
  • Passion for educational technology and a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced research environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of game design theory and principles of game-based learning and assessment.
  • Experience with conducting, analyzing, or incorporating information gained from usability or user experience research.
  • Experience using project tracking tools (e.g., Gantt charts, Jira, Airtable).
  • Experience creating Help or Support documentation with graphic elements.
